Kingston upon Thames is the principal settlement of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames in southwest London. It was the ancient market town where Saxon kings were crowned and is now a suburb situated 10 miles (16.1 km) south west of Charing Cross.
Kingston is a great location for those wanting to be slightly outside of central London, but with great access to the centre of town. Kingston has something for everyone, shopaholics will not be disappointed with the wide array of shops on offer. In particular Clarence Street in the centre of town has a wide range of high street brands. The Bentalls centre contains over 80 shops including Zara, Superdry, Apple and Timberland and attracts 14 million visitors a year.
Nature lovers should not leave Kingston without visiting Richmond Park. London’s largest park with a host of varied wildlife including both red and fallow deer Richmond Park is not to be missed. In particular the Isabella plantation and Pembridge Lodge are two points of interest within the park that are fantastic for a walk and a breath of fresh air. Hampton Court Palace and Wimbledon are both easily accessible from Kingston and both are well worth a visit for guests staying in the area.
